The Mondrian tree grate, designed by Antoni Roselló, is an iconic element of urban greening. This tree grate is made of ductile cast iron with a natural shot-blasted finish and no additional treatment. It is supported by a hot-dip galvanized steel frame (S235 JR), making it highly resistant to corrosion—even in coastal regions. As a result, the Mondrian grate is perfectly suited for long-term outdoor use in a wide range of climates.
The Mondrian tree grate comes in two formats, each thoughtfully engineered for different urban contexts. The smaller version, Mondrian 100, measures 98 by 98 centimeters and features a central tree opening of 50 centimeters. It consists of two separate parts. The larger version, Mondrian 150, measures 148 by 148 centimeters with a 70-centimeter tree opening, divided into three segments. Both models adapt seamlessly to varying tree sizes and spatial configurations, while their geometric grid pattern provides a sense of uniformity and visual harmony in the streetscape.
The Mondrian tree grate requires no maintenance and complies with key international standards such as EN-ISO 146 and UNE-EN 124. Thanks to its high impact resistance and corrosion protection, this product is a reliable solution for public space designers who prioritize durable urban furniture.
The installation of the Mondrian tree grate begins with positioning the hot-dip galvanized steel frame on a prepared surface. A mortar bed is laid, into which the frame is pressed firmly to ensure that its upper edge is perfectly level with the surrounding paving. This ensures seamless integration into the urban environment and helps prevent tripping hazards or long-term subsidence.
Once the mortar bed has cured and the frame is securely set, the cast iron grate segments can be installed. The Mondrian 100 model includes two segments, while the Mondrian 150 is composed of three. These components are safely fixed into the frame using the provided hardware. Thanks to the well-considered design and clear assembly instructions, installation is straightforward and does not require specialized tools or heavy equipment.
