The Tramet collection by Escofet 1886 comprises seating in solid pine and steel for intensive use in public outdoor spaces. The collection includes six models: stool, backless bench, benches with a half backrest left or right, bench with a full backrest and table. The pine is FSC®-certified; the steel structure is corrosion-resistant to class C5.

A well-designed bench does more than provide a place to sit. It structures a square, encourages people to linger and gives a public space its human scale. The Tramet collection combines solid pine with a steel supporting structure into a coherent palette that suits a busy city square as readily as a green campus or a waterside park.

1. How long do timber benches last in a public setting?

Autoclave-treated pine with a preventive fungicide lasts decades under normal use. The steel structure has a zinc primer and a coating rated for the most demanding atmospheric conditions up to class C5, including coastal areas and busy urban environments. Periodic visual inspection is sufficient in most cases.

2. Is FSC®-certified timber required in public procurement?

A growing number of local authorities and public bodies include sustainable material requirements in their specifications. FSC® (Forest Stewardship Council) is the most widely recognised international standard for responsible forest management. Benches with FSC®-certified timber generally qualify as a sustainable choice under green procurement frameworks and environment-related award criteria.

3. Can the benches be installed without foundation works?

Yes. In addition to the standard anchoring with expansion bolts in the paving, the benches can also be used as freestanding, unanchored elements. This simplifies installation and allows for temporary or relocatable placement. A concrete foundation is recommended for soft or unstable substrates.

4. How does the timber surface change after outdoor installation?

Autoclave-treated pine gradually changes colour: from the initial yellow-green hue to a silver-grey patina. This is a natural process that does not affect the durability of the timber. Those wishing to retain the original wood colour can treat the surface periodically with a suitable exterior timber product.

5. Can the Tramet collection be adapted to specific spatial configurations?

The collection comprises six coordinated models: stool, backless bench, bench with half backrest left, bench with half backrest right, bench with full backrest and table. They can be deployed individually or in combination. This makes continuous runs, mixed arrangements and varied seating zones possible. An optional armrest is available on the bench models with a backrest.
