On a city square or beside the entrance of an office building, a bicycle rack carries a role beyond purely technical utility. The Bici-N by Escofet 1886, designed by Estrella Ordoñez & Enric Pericas, brings a reduced geometry: two vertical rods connected by a horizontal arch, in polished stainless steel. Nothing more than necessary, but every detail holds.
The choice of marine-grade stainless steel AISI 316-L is deliberate. This alloy offers increased corrosion resistance, including in damp or saline environments such as coastal municipalities or riverbanks. The polished finish retains its character even after years of exposure to rain and urban grime.
The arch form allows a bicycle to be locked by both frame and front wheel using a chain or padlock. Bicycles stand stably side by side without wheels or mudguards getting caught. The compact footprint allows several Bici-N units to be placed in a row where space is limited.
The Bici-N fits within a broader approach to public space where functional elements also support the spatial narrative. Combine with benches, litter bins or tree grilles from the Escofet 1886 collection for a coherent street setting.
