Many steel bicycle racks have sharp edges or rough surfaces that cause paint damage or scratches when a bicycle leans against them. The City 800 by Larus Design addresses this with a mass-coloured plastic sleeve on the horizontal tube. The sleeve protects the bicycle frame on contact and absorbs minor impacts, so bicycles can be parked safely and without damage.
The City 800's structure is a galvanised steel tube. Galvanisation provides a zinc protective layer that holds back corrosion for years, even in locations with heavy rainfall or humidity. The combination of steel structure and plastic sleeve makes the City 800 suitable for busy locations such as shopping streets, school playgrounds and station environments.
The plastic sleeve is available in the standard colours of Larus Design. This allows the City 800 to be matched to the colours of a street profile, a façade finish or other elements of the street furniture, for a coherent look without visual noise.
The City 800 has one leaning element and accommodates two bicycles. For greater capacity at busy locations there is the City 1600, the wider variant with two leaning elements. Both variants share the same materials and finish and can be combined into longer installations along a street façade or across a square.
