The smoking point beside the seating zone
A well-placed smoking point shapes behaviour. The Sócrates Cenicero 40® is designed as a companion to the Sócrates bench: the height of the element corresponds to the arm height of a seated visitor, so the ashtray point is reachable without standing up. This makes the Cenicero 40® suited for terraces, covered waiting zones, and outdoor spaces with a dwell function where smoking is permitted and its infrastructure needs to be properly integrated into the spatial design. Without a designated point, cigarette butts end up on paving, in planting beds, and in drain grates — the Cenicero 40® routes them into a container that can be emptied easily.
Concrete and stainless steel as a material pair
The body of the Sócrates Cenicero® is cast concrete with natural stone aggregates, polished and waterproofed. The polished finish gives the element a dense, light-reflecting surface quality that matches the architectural presence of the Sócrates bench in polished version. The internal container is AISI 316-L stainless steel — the grade also used in marine environments for its high resistance to corrosion from moisture, salt, and organic residues. This material choice makes the container resistant to cigarette residue and outdoor weather conditions without periodic retreatment.
Material consistency in the dwell zone
The Sócrates Cenicero® uses the same concrete mix, the same finishing processes, and the same colour palette as the Sócrates seating elements and the rest of the Escofet concrete collection. A smoking zone designed with Sócrates benches and Sócrates Ceniceros reads as a coherent material statement — not a patchwork of different suppliers, but a considered choice for unity of material and form in outdoor public space. The stainless steel container is easily accessible for the cleaning service and can be emptied quickly without dismantling the concrete body.
The complete smoking point as part of the project
A smoking zone requires more than one element. The Sócrates Cenicero® works best when the surroundings follow the same concrete logic: Sócrates benches at the right height (Cenicero 40® beside benches, Cenicero 70® on pedestrian routes), bollards and planters in matching finish and colour. How is the stainless steel container of the Sócrates Cenicero® emptied?

Can the Sócrates Cenicero® be used outdoors in rain and frost?
Yes. The body is cast concrete with a waterproofing treatment, suitable for long-term outdoor use in all weather conditions. The stainless steel container in AISI 316-L is corrosion-resistant and withstands moisture, salt, and organic residues. Periodic cleaning of the container is recommended.
Can the Sócrates Cenicero® be combined with the Sócrates benches in the same environment?

The Cenicero is designed as a complement to the Sócrates collection. The ashtray module shares the concrete form of the Cubo and Banca, fitting seamlessly into a Sócrates composition on a square, campus or at the entrance of a public building.
The removable inner insert in AISI 316 stainless steel is lifted out from the top of the concrete module. No tools required.
Polished or acid-washed concrete ages gracefully and requires no periodic maintenance.
